Yorkshire Wedding Photographer

Meet Georgie

The Photographer Behind the Camera

Hi, I’m Georgie.

Based in Skipton, I’m a Yorkshire wedding photographer covering weddings across Yorkshire, Lancashire and beyond, and when I’m not working, I’m probably out with the dog, planning the next adventure, hunting down good food and live music, or being the friend who suggests the girls’ trip, the road trip, or just going somewhere for a few days.

I live on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with Mark, our dogs and our wonderfully busy family. Life is rarely quiet, and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. I love being around people, I love a good laugh and I’m happiest when life is full of things to look forward to. And after 25 years with a camera in my hand, I’m very lucky that photographing people is my job too.

This is me…

Life is for living

I’m a big believer in making the most of the time we have.I love an adventure, and our holidays are rarely the sit-by-the-pooland-do-nothing kind although I do also love that for a few days too!

I love an adventure, and our holidays are rarely the sit-by-the-pooland-do-nothing kind although I do also love that for a few days too!

We love Italy too! We hiked the hills through the Cinque Terre with the kids, travelling between the villages by train and sea before heading to Rome for some R&R, history and food! Oh my gosh, the food!

That’s probably my perfect kind of holiday. A bit of adventure. Beautiful places. Good food. And the people I love.

Home is pretty special too

Our blended family is incredibly important to me. Between my daughter training to be a nurse at Leeds University, Mark’s cricket coaching, his kids being cricket mad, work, dogs, friends and everything else that comes with family life, there’s usually plenty going on.

But I think that’s when we’re at our best. A busy house. People coming and going. Someone needing a lift. Someone playing cricket. Dogs under your feet. It’s noisy, sometimes chaotic and definitely not Instagram perfect. But it’s ours, and I love it.

Give me a hill, a view and a pub

We’re lucky enough to have the Three Peaks practically on our doorstep and love a good walk up one of them but our favourites are discovering the hidden routes. They’re popular for good reason, but I never take for granted how lucky we are to have all that beautiful countryside so close to home.

I love walking with Mark and the dogs, exploring the Yorkshire coast and discovering little villages along the way. Robin Hood’s Bay. Staithes. Whitby. Filey. The Cleveland Way. The moors around Danby Castle ( a fave venue of mine) and across to Helmsley for what I think might be the best pizza in a purpose planted wildflower meadow with far stretching views. Heaven.

And obviously, after a good walk, there needs to be a pint. If the pub happens to serve a steak and ale pie too, even better.

One of my absolute favourites is The Craven Arms in Appletreewick. It’s one of those places that just gets everything right… brilliant food, a warm welcome and that lovely feeling that you could happily stay for another drink. As an added bonus, it’s also a wedding venue I work at regularly. So if you’re planning a wedding there, you can have a little look at [the wedding I photographed at The Craven Arms].

Good food, good friends and a bottle of red

Give me really good food, a bottle of red to share, a fire, Mark and the dogs and I’m very happy indeed. If the sun is shining and I’ve got a spare hour in the middle of the week, there is almost certainly a friend I can hijack for a couple of beers and a catch-up. I love those ordinary moments just as much as the big adventures. Maybe that’s why I notice them so much. The little things are often the best things.

I really do love people

My friends would describe me as funny, mischievous and always hatching the next plan. I love meeting people, hearing their stories and getting to know what makes them tick. I’m naturally chatty and curious, and I think that’s one of the reasons weddings suit me so well. A wedding is basically a giant gathering of people who matter to you. Your favourite people, all in one place. There are relationships everywhere you look, and I love being able to capture them.

Then there’s the photography…

I’ve been behind a camera for over 25 years (yes, back in the day before digital) and photographing weddings since 2014. Before weddings became my world, I worked at the Lancashire Evening Post, making my mark in press photography. That job taught me to look, anticipate and react quickly. You can’t ask a real moment to happen again because you weren’t ready the first time, and that instinct has stayed with me ever since.

I’ve now photographed more than 400 weddings across Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, the Lake District and beyond. But the number of weddings isn’t really what matters to me.

What matters is that after all these years, I still get excited when I arrive. I still love the anticipation. The nervous laughter while everyone is getting ready. The first glimpse of a bride or groom. The parents trying not to cry. The friends who haven’t seen each other for years. The ridiculous dance moves later in the evening. And all those tiny moments happening in between.

Your wedding isn’t a photoshoot

You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to be comfortable in front of a camera and you definitely don’t need to spend your wedding day worrying about where your photographer is. I’ll give you a little direction when you need it, but for most of the day I’m watching, anticipating and capturing what’s actually happening. You get on with getting married!

Laugh. Cry. Eat. Drink. Hug people. Dance badly. Sneak away together for five minutes. I’ll be there photographing it because the photographs I love most aren’t always the perfectly posed ones. They’re the ones that take you straight back.

The photographs that don’t just show you what your wedding looked like, but remind you exactly how it felt.

And that’s me! I’m a photographer, obviously. But I’m also the woman who loves a road trip, a good pub, a mountain walk, a bottle of red, a sunny afternoon with friends and a sofa in front of the fire with the people and dogs I love. I love big adventures and very ordinary days. I love beautiful places, but I love the people I’m sharing them with even more. And I think that’s probably why I photograph weddings the way I do.

People first. Always.

So if you’re looking for someone who will blend into the background when you don’t need her, jump in when you do, make you laugh when you’re nervous and genuinely care about the people in your photographs…

I’m Georgie.

I think we might get on rather well.
