Why
Georgie Beck Photography

Natural, relaxed and full of personality. Photographs of the people, the madness, the emotion and all the brilliant little moments in between. Your wedding isn’t a photoshoot. It’s a day you’ve spent months, probably years, looking forward to. It’s your favourite people all in one place, your folks trying not to cry, your best mate making a speech they probably shouldn’t, champagne, hugs, happy tears, terrible dancing and the occasional bit of beautiful chaos.

I want you to actually experience it. I’ll photograph it.

You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera

If the thought of having your photograph taken makes you feel a little awkward, you’re definitely not alone. You don’t need to practise your poses. You don’t need to know where to put your hands. And you don’t need to spend your wedding day thinking about the camera.

I’m there to guide you when you need a little direction, but most of the time I’ll be watching, anticipating and capturing things as they happen. I’ll be around, but I won’t be in the way. You’ll probably forget I’m there. Which is exactly when the magic happens.

The big moments are important. So are the little ones.

Of course I’ll photograph the things you’d expect me to. Getting ready. Your ceremony. The confetti. The hugs. The group photographs. Your first dance.

But I’m just as interested in everything happening around them. The look your mum gives you when she sees you for the first time. Your friends laughing together during drinks. Someone sneaking an extra canapé.

Your dad having a quiet moment before the ceremony. Your best friend crying during the speeches. The person you haven’t seen for ten years throwing their arms around you. Those are the photographs that tell the story.

I’ll give you some direction, but never a performance

There are a few photographs where a little organisation is useful. I’ll round up your family and friends for the group photographs, keep things moving and make sure we don’t spend half your wedding day standing in a line.

And yes, we’ll take some beautiful photographs of the two of you. I like to break these up into different parts of the day. I won’t disappear with you for two hours. I want you back with your people. We’ll find somewhere beautiful, take a little time together, and I’ll give you enough direction to feel comfortable without making it feel like a photoshoot.

Then we’ll get back to the party. Because that’s where you should be.

And then there’s the light…

This is one of the reasons I love photographing a wedding from beginning to end. By the time you’ve eaten, had a drink and relaxed into the day, something changes. The nerves have disappeared. You’re completely in it. The time restrictions have gone, and often, the light outside is getting really good.

Maybe we sneak away for the two of you to be together and breathe. Maybe you wander outside with your friends. Maybe the sun suddenly breaks through and your venue looks incredible. Maybe the sky shows us the most incredible sunset.

I don’t want to be driving home thinking, “what a shame I wasn’t there for that.” I want to be there for the beautiful light, the unexpected moments, the hugs, the dance floor and the chaos. There’s no rushing and no watching the clock, just photographing your day as it unfolds.

Your wedding, your way

Every wedding is different. Some are big, loud and wonderfully chaotic. Some are small and intimate. Some involve hundreds of people. Others are just your favourite few.

Some couples love being photographed. Some would rather hide behind a bush. Some want a packed dance floor until midnight. Others are perfectly happy with dinner, drinks and good conversation. There isn’t a right way to get married, and there isn’t a right way to have your wedding photographed.

My job is to understand what matters to you and photograph your day as it happens.

25 years behind the camera

I’ve been behind a camera for around 25 years and photographing weddings for more than 12 of them. My background in press photography taught me to anticipate what’s about to happen rather than wait for someone to tell me what to photograph. I’ve now photographed more than 400 weddings across Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, the Lake District and beyond.

So while I might be relaxed about things, I know what I’m doing. I’ll know when to step in. I’ll know when to disappear. I’ll know where to be when something brilliant is about to happen. And I’ll probably be having just as much fun as you are.

Covering Yorkshire and beyond

I’m based in Skipton, right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, and I photograph weddings across North Yorkshire and beyond, from Harrogate to the wider Dales and everywhere in between.

What you’ll remember

Years from now, I don’t think you’ll care whether every photograph was perfectly posed. You’ll care about the photographs that take you straight back. You’ll remember how your dad looked at you. How your friends were laughing. How your nan danced. How your new husband or wife looked at you when nobody else was watching.

You’ll remember the people who were there, the people you miss, and the things you had completely forgotten happened. That’s what I’m photographing. Not just how your wedding looked. How it felt.
